From boating to antiquing, live music to wine tastings, Galena and its surrounding areas offer a little something for everyone. Read on to discover all the great attractions that our town has to offer!

Galena Dogwood Festival

The town is famous for the dogwoods lining its streets with a bevy of pink and white blooms every spring. In recent years, flowering cherry trees have added their blossoms to the scene. It is also home to a variety of delightful antique stores and small restaurants. The popularity of the dogwood trees, Galena's symbol, gave rise to the now annual Dogwood Festival. Folks from all over the county flock to Galena to enjoy this family-friendly event. The Dogwood Festival was first celebrated in 2006, but soon became an annual tradition drawing spectators from all over the county, entertaining families and friends with a parade, plenty of food, and live music.

Sassafras River

It's only a three minute drive from the heart of Galena to the Georgetown waterfront, with sailing, kayaking, fishing, and more! With seven marinas, there's plenty of slips available for boats. Want a change of pace? Instead of driving across the Bay Bridge, why not take a shortcut by water? Sail across from Baltimore and enjoy a quicker trip, as well as the scenic beauty of the Sassafras River. Galena's restaurants also have the benefit of fantastic local seafood. Enjoy Eastern Shore famous cuisine the way it should be enjoyed - on the waterfront!

Shopping and More

Not a boat fan? No problem! There's plenty of other activities to enjoy in Galena. There are live music festivals on the weekends, parks, walking trails, historic landmarks, shopping, and more! Come to Galena for a day trip: take a stroll and enjoy the dogwoods on Main Street, stop at the ice cream shop for a scoop of fresh homemade ice cream, browse through the antique stores, or stroll through our downtown shopping plaza. Almost everything is walkable from the heart of town, so come on a sunny day and get your exercise somewhere more fun than the local gym. For nature lovers, the Sassafras Natural Resources Management Area is also close by, with hiking, biking, horseback riding, birding, and more. Galena is also conveniently close to the Chesapeake Wine Trail, for wine enthusiasts looking to discover the distinctive wineries of the Eastern Shore.
