On behalf of the mayor, council members, and staff of the Town of Galena, we want to welcome you to our small town, and we look forward to the opportunity to meet you. As a new resident, we ask you to complete a contact information form in the event there is an emergency, and we need to communicate with you. We have included information below that we hope you find beneficial, and always welcome your call, email, or visit any time you have questions.
We are located in Kent County, with a population of approximately 600 residents. We have a mayor, 4 council members, 3 full-time and 2 part-time staff members. We have monthly meetings: Mayor and Council the first Monday, Planning and Zoning the last Monday, and Park and Tree Committee the third Monday of each month at Town Hall —you are always welcome to attend. Residents within town limits are provided water/sewer/trash services and will be billed by the Town of Galena quarterly.
In order to maintain the integrity of the homes within our tiny town, we have a Charter and a set of Planning & Zoning Ordinances. When considering making changes to your home or property, property owners should contact the Town Hall to see if the project is allowed. All plans must be reviewed by the Planning Commission/Zoning Clerk and if your request is not in the ordinance, the Board of Appeals will review the plans to ensure the project is in line with the Town’s Comprehensive Plan. Please contact the Zoning Clerk if you have a remodeling or addition project that you might be interested in making. Here are examples of Accessory Permits that are required: fence, shed, and pools. It is best to contact the Town Hall to see if a permit is required.
Again, we welcome you to the Town of Galena!
Mayor John T. Carroll
Council Member Sarah E. Merrell
Council Member Justinian M. Dispenza
Council Member Tyler J. Carpenter
Council member Cheryl A. Richwine
