The Façade Improvement Program supports exterior façade projects to recover and promote the integrity of the buildings and improve the visual characteristics of the community. The program is administered through the Town of Galena under the guidance of the State of Maryland’s Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD). The Town of Galena Façade Improvement Program has been funded by Maryland’s DHCD Community Legacy Program for seven years. Over that period of time, 32 projects have been funded for a total grant amount of $265,000. The application Review Committee will be selected by the Town of Galena.
Eligible projects include, but are not limited to, the following list: Awning/Canopies, Carpentry (exterior only), Entry Lighting & Painting, Masonry, Repointing/Repair/Path, Handicapped Accessibility, Roof Repair/Replacement, Fascia and Soffit Replacement/Repair, Door and Window Replacement/Repair, Porch and Step Replacement/Repair & Painting, Foundation Repairs, HVAC (commercial only), and Signage Storefront Improvement (commercial only).
Ineligible Projects: New Construction, Interior Renovations, Costs associated with: Security Systems, Solar Systems, or Satellite Dishes, Purchase of Property/Building, Fencing, Pawn Shops, Gun Shops, Tanning Salons, Massage Parlors, Adult Video/Bookshops, Check Cashing Facilities, Gambling Facilities, Tattoo Parlors, Liquor Stores, and Religious Institutions.
